Geriatric Physiotherapy
DEU Faculty of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Geriatric Physiotherapy Department, the first department established in this area among physiotherapy schools in Turkey, has been successfully carrying on its research and education activities.
The size of the world’s and Turkey’s geriatric population and life expectancy have gradually increased. This escalates the need for specialized health professionals in the provision of primary and secondary healthcare services for individuals over 65 years of age. The theoretically and practically training of under-graduate and post-graduate students for being specialized physiotherapists in the field of geriatric physiotherapy is provided with the supervision of faculty members, lecturers and research assistants of DEU Faculty of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Geriatric Physiotherapy Department.
In Geriatric Physiotherapy Department, social responsibility projects, scientific researches and academic studies are conducted on successful aging, increasing the quality of life and preventing falls in the elderly and elimination of age related functional losses by a physiotherapist perspective.
